Resolving The E-mail Paradox
SUMMARY In the past decade, e-mail has become a revolutionary communications tool that delivers a swift
and expedient means for corporations to conduct business. Corporate users love e-mail because
it is fast, convenient and ubiquitous. Widespread use of electronic mail for business
communication has turned message repositories and e-mail folders into invaluable crucibles that
hold as much as 60 percent of corporate information assets.

resources to their limits. At the same time, the need to retain and present on demand, e-mails
and attachments as corporate records is becoming mandatory. These two opposing e-mailmanagement
forces have created what is known as the E-mail Paradox.
