NorthSeas Advanced Messaging
Technology, Inc. (NorthSeas) was established in 2003 to provide the global marketplace with simple and
effective e-mail management solutions. NorthSeas (based in Ottawa, Canada’s high-tech capital) and its team of
professionals share the company’s founding opinion that
even the most difficult of information technology challenges can be
resolved effectively with relatively simple solutions.
Our Expertise
NorthSeas brings to the e-mail management industry years of expertise in
messaging and archival storage in industries that demand quality and
efficiency such as telecommunications, financial services,
government, and civil aviation. NorthSeas is closely affiliated with
a sister company called Ubitech Systems Inc, a twenty-five year old
global leader in advanced message switching systems for civil
aviation authorities around the world.
As the most critical of business-critical applications, businesses large
and small now rely heavily on corporate messaging systems for
communicating with customers and business partners.
E-mail storage is one of the biggest challenges currently
facing those responsible for keeping corporate messaging systems
operational. Our combined expertise in messaging and storage helps
businesses avoid having its messaging system encumbered by excessive
storage, unwanted messages, or lack of flexibility.
NorthSeas provides better e-mail storage solutions that are simple and effective.
Our Philosophy
NorthSeas believes that e-mail archiving has evolved, and will continue
to flourish, largely because the message stores in commercial e-mail
applications do not scale sufficiently well enough to handle
today’s heavy e-mail use and the need for longer retention. Our
philosophy that “Businesses want better e-mail storage rather than
e-mail archiving” reflects customer feedback that an alternative
to the current server-based message store model is needed.
Classic e-mail archiving solutions help minimize storage on the mail
server but do little to relieve the user of the growing burden of
managing their excessive volume of messages and mail-folders. In our
opinion, Google has changed the way that users now access
information. Google has convinced users that a search and retrieval
model of information access is more convenient and faster.
In a 2002 article written by Jon Udell called “Googling
Your Email”, Udell described the need for better e-mail management
where users search and find e-mail messages in the same way they
find web sites using the Google search tools. The NorthSeas Search and Replay™ application, on its e-mail
archiving appliances, provides precisely this capability.
NorthSeas technology has been
developed with a philosophy that effective technology solutions like
e-mail archiving need not be difficult, expensive or high
maintenance. NorthSeas appliance solutions are vendor independent, easy to maintain, and do not require any third-party software,
application integration or user training.
NorthSeas is a proponent of the Open
Message Store, a new concept that is rapidly gaining
attention amongst administrators of messaging systems.
An Open Message Store provides the business with a choice of technology
it wishes to deploy as its primary message store. In today’s
Message Stores, messages are usually stored in a proprietary
database so they are not easily accessible by other applications.
Adding more storage to the messaging system can be very expensive
and often requires that customer to add more mail-servers just to
gain more e-mail storage. Although Open Message Stores do not
currently exist as plug-and-play
solutions, companies like NorthSeas are enthusiastically standing
behind the concept and working toward its eventual realization.
NorthSeas believes very
strongly that messages should be stored in vendor-neutral formats to
allow for easy, flexible rendering and re-use, even many years into
the future. Archival repositories that are bound to a particular
message format serve to lock the customer in to one vendor’s
architecture. This will become even more important as unified
messaging becomes more commonplace and stored messages will need to
be rendered and redelivered to a wider variety of destination
technologies. NorthSeas
currently stores its messages in a vendor-neutral file format so
that the customer is not locked into a messaging vendor, nor are
they locked in to NorthSeas.
